Dr. Jon Wilensky, MD, is a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon and Diplomate of the American Board of Plastic Surgery, based in the San Diego and the Central Valley regions of California. With over 19 years of experience, he specializes in cosmetic surgery of the breasts and body, including tummy tucks, breast augmentation, breast lift, and liposuction. Dr. Wilensky is also a prolific researcher and writer, having published numerous papers, particularly on traumatic wounds and Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery.

A native of New York City, Dr. Wilensky was born to public servants, an elementary school teacher and an NYPD police officer. He attended The Stuyvesant High School, the premier public math and science high school, which required a rigorous 2-hour commute each way from Staten Island to Manhattan. At 17, he was one of just nine high school seniors nationwide invited to attend both undergraduate and medical school at The University of Michigan as part of the prestigious 7-Year Integrated BS-MD dual degree program. By 24, he completed his MD degree at The University of Michigan Medical School and matched into the highly competitive Integrated Plastic Surgery residency program at the University of Michigan Health System, completing this rigorous 6-year post-MD training in 2006. He achieved Board Certification from the American Board of Plastic Surgery in November 2007, having just turned 32 the month prior, becoming the youngest Plastic Surgeon to ever be Certified by the Board.

Dr. Wilensky is deeply invested in the emerging fields of implantable biotechnology and cellular therapeutics. He has served as Lead Surgeon in multiple clinical trials, including studies on implantable sensors and cell therapy, and has consulted for numerous early- and mid-stage companies. He recently served as the Head of Surgery for ViaCyte, Inc., which was acquired by VERTEX Pharmaceuticals to advance curative programs for Type 1 Diabetes. Designated as an Emerging Leader in Biotechnology, Dr. Wilensky received a fellowship to complete an MBA from the University of California-San Diego Rady School of Management, focusing on Technology Commercialization, Disruptive Innovation, and Entrepreneurship. While at Rady, he co-founded Braykion, a digital health technology company addressing hospital-acquired infections due to non-compliance with handwashing guidelines. This technology has now been adopted by Apple and is including in the Apple Watch whereby the smartwatch can detect when you’re washing your hands and start a 20-second timer.

Currently, Dr. Wilensky focuses his plastic surgery practice on Beautologie – Cosmetic Surgery, Medical Aesthetics & Wellness. He is a Consulting Surgeon in this premier multi-partner, single-specialty, Plastic Surgery group. For his Hospital-based Reconstructive Surgery, Dr. Wilensky is an Attending Surgeon at both Palomar Health, the largest public health district in California and a member of the Mayo Clinic Care Network, and Scripps Health. His passion for innovative technology and patient care is evident in his work. He is committed to creating implantable medical devices and advancements that benefit his patients and all of humanity.

Outside his professional commitments, Dr. Wilensky enjoys spending time with his wife and two daughters, ages 20 and 16. An avid outdoorsman, he has climbed Mt. Shasta twice, Mt. Rainier, and completed a 24-hour endurance walk across and back the Grand Canyon 11 times. He has scaled Mount Kilimanjaro as a member of the Global Access to Cancer Care Foundation’s “Climb for Hope,” the highest peak in Africa. He has also completed climbs of Mount Aconcagua, the highest peak in South America and the Western Hemisphere, as well as Mount McKinley (Denali) in North America.
